Washington County Regional Medical Center Offers 3D Mammograms with the Installation of Fujifilm’s ASPIRE Cristalle

Installation of the new digital breast tomosynthesis system is part of the hospital’s effort to provide the most effective tools available to detect breast cancer at the earliest possible stage

Sandersville, GA., February 28, 2021 - Washington County Regional Medical Center announced today that they've recently installed FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc.’s ASPIRE Cristalle digital mammography solution featuring Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) technology, also known as 3D mammography. DBT is an FDA-approved advanced technology that takes multiple low dose images, or X-rays, of breast tissue to recreate a 3-dimensional picture of the breast. These multiple images of breast tissue slices generate a clearer image of the breast, which can help better visualize lesions between overlapping layers of breast tissue to help clinicians detect more breast cancers earlier.

“We consider our investment in technology an investment in the health and wellbeing of the community we serve,” said David Flanders, CEO. “Since adding Fujifilm’s 3D mammography system, we have noticed an increase in our patient volume, patient comfort with the system’s flexible comfort paddle design, and decrease in patient anxiety as 3D mammography has significantly reduced the number of patients being recalled for additional testing after receiving their mammogram. We are thrilled to partner with Fujifilm to improve our practice’s diagnostic imaging capabilities and women’s health patient experiences.”

Statistics from the American Cancer Society indicates that a woman in the United States has a one in eight risk, over the course of her lifetime, of being diagnosed with breast cancer. The society also reported that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime, and the stage at which breast cancer is detected influences the patient’s chance of survival.

The ASPIRE Cristalle with DBT combines Fujifilm’s Hexagonal Close Pattern (HCP) capture technology and intelligent image processing, to optimize dose and contrast, based on individual breast composition. The result is low dose and fast acquisition of high-quality images for all breast types. In addition, patients can experience a noticeable improvement in comfort during procedures with Fujifilm’s patented, flexible comfort paddle design, which provides gentle and even compression that is designed to adapt to patient curves. Patients experiencing more comfortable breast exams are more likely to follow up for future exams and refer family and friends to get screenings.

“At Fujifilm, we believe women worldwide should have access to safe, comfortable and precise 3D mammograms, as they can assist clinicians to identify more abnormalities and signs of cancers earlier and regardless of individual breast tissue density” said Rob Fabrizio, Director of Strategic Marketing, Digital Radiography and Women’s Health, FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. “We look forward to continuing to support Washington County Regional Medical Center in their efforts to advance breast health care in their community.”

Located at 610 Sparta Rd, Sandersville, GA, the women’s imaging center is open for mammograms on Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 4:00 PM.
