Washington County Regional Medical Center Welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon, Patrick G. Hanson, MD

An orthopedic surgeon can choose from a number of specialties, from foot and ankle to spine or sports medicine. For Optim Health System’s Patrick G. Hanson, MD, the choice was simple: general orthopedics.

“I like to do a lot of different surgeries and, as a generalist, I’m able to treat a variety of conditions,” he said. “It’s especially important in a community like Sandersville because people have a wide range of issues. I’m able to treat any orthopedic problem and having that range of ability is what I really enjoy.”

Because he is a general orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hanson is able to provide comprehensive care for conditions and injuries relating to and affecting the following areas: foot and ankle; lower leg; knee; hip and thigh; hand and elbow; and shoulder.

“My main goals are to get people feeling better and then to help them get moving,” he commented. “It could be a patient who has arthritic pain and is having trouble getting out of bed and getting moving. Or it could be an athlete who has some serious aches and pains and wants to get back on the field. It doesn’t matter who the patient is, I never tell someone to quit moving. “

Dr. Hanson said one aspect of his job that he finds especially rewarding is that patients can start to feel better in a short amount of time.

“In orthopedics, we can do a procedure and see the results very quickly,” he said. “Two weeks after I perform knee surgery, you might come back and say, ‘Dr. Hanson, I feel great’. That’s super rewarding to me because I know I have helped you and the results are you feel better.”

Dr. Hanson also said he is honored by the level of trust patients place in him. “Medicine is unique in that people need to completely trust you with all their health problems,” he explained. “It’s truly a great privilege for me to meet so many different people in the community and help them.”

A native of Middle Georgia, Dr. Hanson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia, then went on to receive his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Atlanta Medical Center Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Hanson joined Optim Health System in 2019. As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, he is proud to be a part of Optim’s network of renowned physicians and holds clinic in Dublin and Sandersville, Ga.

“I’m enjoying being in Sandersville,” he said. “A great day for me is treating patients in the morning and working in the operating room in the afternoon.”

Dr. Hanson is available to see patients in Sandersville every Friday from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM. To make an appointment, call 478-272-3140. The office is conveniently located at 610 Sparta Road.
